Our Inspiration

Our inspiration and very special, first "gift" was inspired by Anna Jimenez!
Anna and Manuel Jimenez were married in a simple courthouse ceremony over 15 years ago. They have three beautiful children; Kristina is 13, Gianna is 8 and Joseph is 6. Anna was a vivacious, hard-working mom until she noticed a twitching in her arm that would soon change the lives of her and her family.

In January of 2008, Anna was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or what is more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is a degenerative disease that affects the nervous system causing the loss of voluntary muscle movement. Currently, there is no cure for ALS and patients live an average of 2 to 5 years after diagnosis. Anna’s friends and family have held two fund raisers to pay for alternative stem cell treatments that she has undergone in Texas and Cologne, Germany without any success. Anna is now confined to a wheelchair and has difficulty with everyday activities such as typing, talking and eating.

While reflecting on her life, Anna mentioned that she regretted not having a traditional wedding when she married Manuel. Her friends decided to help plan the wedding of her dreams so Anna and Manuel can renew their vows with their children, family, and friends present.

Anna’s friend and bridesmaid, Dawn Thornton, began emailing wedding venues and vendors to see if anyone was willing to donate their products or services. She was amazed by the response! Anna and Manuel’s wedding date was on January 9, 2010 and her story has inspired all of those involved.

The Gifted Wedding was founded with Anna’s story in our minds and hearts- we want to give other deserving couples the opportunity to have their dream weddings when they otherwise could not due to an illness, disability, or a unique financial situation.

Thank you to Anna and the Jimenez family for amazing us with your courage, inspiring us with your strength and reminding us to be thankful each and every day.
